Perhaps some people feel they are invincible, that they won't get

caught, and are lured along by the chase. The personality makeup of

this personality type is part reckless, part childlike, and part

brilliance.

It takes a real risk-taker to consider all the options and a nihilist

to boot, to even walk down such a road, which will inevitably lead to

the conclusion that there are no alternatives except extreme action.

There may be other alternatives, but people who see the dark at the

end of the tunnel already chose to see the absence of light.

They black out all other alternatives to consider in order to see the

darkness. They may enforce self-delusion. They may already be there.

They need to block out all alternatives if their views are to match

their purposes, and their actions are to be justified. Nihilism is the

catalyst for extreme action, an attempt to grasp at the light at the

tunnel's end that cannot be seen or appreciated.

This mentality may develop suddenly, as a reaction, or over time. Some

people take leaps and bounds, disconnected from reality. They act like

Olympic athletes, determined to beat the odds. Part of the thrill is

going up against such odds, the thrill of the hunt, the joy of being

hunted, and the feeling of being an underdog. It is also a mentality

very common in North America amongst the potentially bright who seem

to fail at what they do, suffering from malaise and lack of focus.

A world of wonder to them is a Disneyland of bombs, brightly lit

buildings, gunfire, smoke, ashes, and chaos. Loss of life is not a

consideration. It is the risk they take. They are willing to put

themselves and others at risk. The only exception is the suicide

bomber, willing to destroy himself in the face of others, probably to

gain face due to lost pride and a sense of shame. The true ones need
their own delusion and become too proud to let go of themselves.

They feel they are heroes, and not martyrs, which is part of the

danger of their thinking. If more could be understood, more of this

political behavior could be prevented. There is always a psychological

mechanism going on.
