Abandon Me By Lucy Inkster

Abandon Me [lyrics by Lucy Ruth Rich Inkster 1994, music by Ian Inkster, 2016]

You can abandon ships, you can abandon cats, But you can't abandon me.
So don't leave me darling don't fly over the sea,
be a kind friend to me and don't fly over the sea.

You can G fly over the mountains, you can fly over the sea, but you can't abandon me, Never ever gonna abandon me.

You give me your heart and soul and promise to keep my key and babe remember just don't abandon me
You can fly to Africa and you can7 give up my key
but you'll always be in my heart so please remember me.

I will never lose heart in you, you should never lose heart in me. All and all I love you and I want you to be with me
Babe look over your shoulder, and down to your feet you know,
remember to never lose thatkey cos I love ya head to toe.

Take my key and throw it babe, what do you think you'll find, it will be my own heart broken because I'm abandoned so unkind.
You know that I am with you cos you know I play my part, don't abandon me my darling or I'l shoot an arrow through your heart.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The lyrics for this song were found in my attic this year when mooching. They came from a dew index cards written by my daughter Lucy when she was only 8 years old. I was delighted and impressed so these long years later I put them to music for her 30th birthday. I changed only one word on the cards to get perfect cadence and rhyme!

For an 8-year old I think it stands alone anyway!
