After The Gift Is Given Poem by Rick Elpers

After The Gift Is Given

And with an air of sadness
I retreat back into
The shallows where separation
Took place, leaving me
No position of recurrence
To our past evolved into the future
As we would have grown
Together in bonded hearts
Persevering all that comes to us
Now that I stand alone
Watching but no longer hoping
To a life bound to the one
 whom I thought loved me
I shall waver in and out of ideas
That used to carry my soul
Until that day where you
Are nothing more than
Someone I used to know.

I love this, it resonates with an aching realness.
