Aladdin's Lamp Poem by Irene Bitter

Aladdin's Lamp

Aladdin's lamp smashed into a gazillion pieces,
The genie ran away,
The golden fish won't grant free wishes,
She's begging for some pay,
The magic wand has lost its power,
Fairy Godmother got fired today.

Cinderella's dancing with her broom again
The glass slipper fit another,
The ugly duckling did not turn into a swan
The duck's indeed his mother,
The frog prince renounced his royal title
The Princess was a bother.

Wake up!
Reality has knocked
On my door the other day,
It kicked, it punched, it screamed,
It roared
And it is here to stay.
