All Through The Night Poem by Lora Colon

All Through The Night

All through the night, I listened
While his demons belabored my ears,
I held him close to me while he cried,
Until he could smile through his tears

All through the night, how I hoped
In my eyes he would notice the flame,
My heart cried 'Send my loneliness back
To the darkness from where it came'

All through the night, pretending,
Maybe our love was destined to be,
Like a beggar, I held out my hands
And waited for his charity

All through the night, I wondered,
Would my love song remain unsung?
I wanted to cry out 'Please love me.....'
Words stuck on the tip of my tongue

All through the night, I held him
Close to me..... but my dream was denied,
Then morning appeared on restless wings,
And he was gone..... O, how I cried

All through the night, I loved him,
A foolish dream, now faded from view,
If only his love could have been mine,
If only..... for a night.... or two
