Animal Rights(I Want To Be A Snail Or A Turtle) Poem by U Win Kyi

Animal Rights(I Want To Be A Snail Or A Turtle)

I felt pity for the turtle,
carrying on its back a heavy shell,
beaten in a running race by a hare.
I felt sorry for the snail,
carrying a big shell on its way,
for moving a few feet, it spent a whole day.
The shells were their homes,
no need to buy with a loan.

I am now a laid-off worker.
I lost my home due to pay-back failure.
I sleep under the bridge in chilling winter.
I eat my food at soup-kitchen.
Now I feel sorry and pity for myself.
Only a few cents is all I have.
I lost my human dignity.
I ask my God to show me mercy.
I pray to God to change me into an animal,
either a snail or a turtle.
