Antares Of Hope Poem by Madathil Rajendran Nair

Antares Of Hope

Rating: 5.0

‘No' sounds a deep baritone
And as India claps in unison
‘No' it repeats in a deeper tone
Bachchan has returned
The towering Goliath
To deliver a blow of death
On feudal Indian male mind-set
That lays down dos and don'ts
Just only for women
While men can philander
Desecrate, defile, rape
Run amok like drunken apes
Doing what they want
Without control, unquestioned

A woman may do
All that men are accustomed to do
But yet when she says ‘No'
That is the end
Beyond which no one should infringe
Roars Bachchan
With fire in his eyes
She may just be anybody
A girl-friend, your own wife
Mother or mate of somebody
A woman of loose morals
Whatever that means
But when she has said ‘No'
Don't then place a step ahead

The thespian has returned
In a new avatar
Who in his young days personified
A messiah on screen
In whom oppressed Indian women
Multitudes of the less privileged
Unfortunate ones of Indian streets
Found a savior big brother or son

Indian womanhood now
Clings to his aging long arms to bow
In tearful gratitude
For speaking out for them
To a slumbering nation's conscience
In hard-hitting, no uncertain terms

The end of the night has come
A red giant has risen
In the Indian skies
A gigantic Antares of hope
A grateful nation wakes
To Bachchan's roar
That sends shivers down the spines
Of adamant, unheeding swine

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The latest hard-hitting Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Pink', which I saw yesterday, is the inspiration for this poem.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

This Amitabh Bachchan may be hard-hitting, but this powerful and indicting poem is just as hard hitting. Your loving care for women shines, though, beneath each fiery word of condemnation for what is happening. God bless you for raising your voice against subjugation, arrogance, cruelty, and sexism. 10++++++++++++++

This beautiful thought provoking poem came as a surprise.. I'am still under the spell of this movie Pink and this poem has tickled the mind to think one step ahead of time. Indeed a very sensitive poem. Enjoyed reading it.

Empowerment of women and attaining parity in all field of life, say in employment etc. etc. is a thing we all should endorse and encourage. Men and women should stand shoulder to shoulder for progress and enlightenment to take place. A timely movie and a timely poem penned with great dexterity.

Behind this poem, I see an anti male chauvinist..! I haven't seen the film...! I am generally not a movie watcher, but a fan of Amitabh! ! ! If all men begin to think like the hero of he film, how different the world would have been! Sadly the atrocities on women seem to escalate day by day! This poem is a powerful reminder and exhortation to everyone to effect a change of attitude in their jaundiced and biased view and treatment of women!

What a stellar this write is! That's a landmark poem that the world needs to read. It speaks for all the oppressed women around the world. And of course Amitabh is a universal hero, a wonderful man n actor. Every woman's dream hero. Your poem inspires me to watch the movie. A stunning piece that deserves a gigantic 10.
