Aphasia Poem by Adeline Foster

~ Aphasia

What was that word that began it all?
What enchanting words could we recall?
Were they bold, or were they shy?
Did you speak first, or was it I?
When did the buds of trust first bloom?
On which paths were love's petals strewn?
When we exchanged our first blithe smile,
Were you planning all the while?
Those words that held my heart entranced,
Were they planned, or just mere chance?
Was it the words, or just the voice?
Did we really make a choice?
Were those words meant to enthrall?
Or did we need the words at all?

When was that word that began it all?
That word that we cannot recall.
Was it night, or was it morn?
Was it meant, or just ill-born?
When did our smiles turn to a frown?
Was it me that got you down?
Were the cares too much to bear?
Did someone carry more than their share?
When did we turn to other plans?
When did we separate our hands?
When did we forget that it was "we",
And start to say, "it's 'you' or 'me' "?
When was that word? Can you recall?
Was it spring, or was it fall?

Thank you, Adeline for inviting me to read your poem. I am impressed. Clean, entertaining train of thought. Good rhythm and delightful to read. I found myself cheering for a voice that I had not heard before. It is great to run into a professional who takes the poetic form seriously and is obviously proud of her skills. I feel this site needs more rhymers and traditionalists. I shall read more. (please note If I have met you before I am in my dotage and forgot)

Adeline! I know the answer! It depends on the level of Creation you talk about. Yes, all was planned. All was already planned by God at his level. At our level we are just like participating in His movie, inside it, with kind of free will at our level. But He knows even what and when we will choose and say and do - from His level. Smy He may open the future films of His movie. To those who deserve it by righteousness and likeness to Him. When we exchanged our first blithe smile, Were you planning all the while? Those words that held my heart entranced, Were they planned, or just mere chance?

These are questions we should all ask ourselves. The development of your idea is first-rate. I think I'll add power of words to Consciousness. A very fine poem indeed. Tom Billsborough

A wonderful poem, Adeline. I don't often vote points, but I'm giving this a ten. You submitted it over a month and a half ago. I hope you still have many more to come.

All those questions we all at some point ask ourselves, it's a painful journey and there are more questions, never ending question,

This poem has the WoW factor on so many levels. It's easy to read but at the same time there is so much to feel, to think, to remember from our own life that we read it slow and savor. I like the use of contrast, I like the use of repetition. Shoot, there's nothing I don't like about this poem. It packs a lot of impact It has a universality about it that keeps drawing me back to it.. 10++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
