Arctic Blue Poem by David Wood

Arctic Blue

Rating: 5.0

Yellow, then soft pale orange
Slowly lit the morning sky.
Blue ice shrinking every day
With each sub zero dawn.

Polar bears now diminished
Skinny from lack of food, seal
pups dying before they are
Out of their teens. They are
Fewer now the ice is melting.

Mankind's lust for greed, for
Over producing from oil to
Clothing. Trashing majestic
Rainforests to grow animal feed.

Yet space tourism is beginning
To take off, pun intended, and
A new arms race gathers pace as
Polar bears still die from hunger.

The blue arctic night ends as it
Started, the colour blue fades
Into the black of night, and yet,
Nobody seems to notice.

With so much distraction around we hardly pay attention to these minute details, which nature has blessed us with. Superb poem, Welcome Back.5****
