Backlash Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Backlash

Backlash retracked.
Of made Black,
Advancements to trash.
With a garbage,
Of a smothering rubbish.
Spread from coast to coast,
And on distant shores.
Done with this to hope,
Jokes spiced would entice and provoke...
Many to accept a rejecting,
A truth uncovered to discover...
Those folks to depict,
As a negative deposit.
Having no value.
Other to entertain a deceiving wickedness.

Digging deeper to find and stop.
An ignorance watched.
Once done for centuries.
And around the clock.
That backlash to have lasted,
To prolong for much too long.
Exposes those with noses held high,
Coming to realize...
With their eyes stretched open wide.
Those black folks,
They stood by to criticize their entire lives...
Had been the very same people,
Their ancestors depended upon...
More than any other race,
To put them in places to assist...
Them to thrive and survive.
Claiming a greatness.
Had been achieved by the ones,
Only with Caucasian faces.

Historically re-written.
And meant kept to deceive,
Has been the truth and reality of it.
Known by Native American Indians.
Exploring Africans.
And ocean mapping Chinese.
Long before,
Achieving deceivers...
Had arrived on all shores!

"Your 'recollection' is not only offensive.
But also appalling."

-I know.
After researching the facts.
I too felt like that! -
