Black Autism In America (B.A. In America) Poem by Lisa Rhodes

Black Autism In America (B.A. In America)

The shrill cry
of a baby trying
to talk the primal
scream of autistic black
youths reawakening
after years of silence
exhortations of efforts
hands whipping the air skillfully
alerting the world to possibilities
infinitely...

They are livin & breath'in
talk'in in utterances soon
to be recognize able speech
mak'in progress oblivious
to negativity worlds abound
hold'in hands
to erase insensitivity

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Black children are trying to speak who have autism in broken syllables and utterances and we must make every effort to encourage them in spite of negativity from an insensitive society ignorant to the intelligence of these children. They must not be forgotten and shut out from an education. God help our children and keep the door open........
