Black Swallowtail Poem by J.M Berger

Black Swallowtail

Emerge from a cocoon
Of an outrageous past
We were under-educated
Overzealous
Minds emancipated
But thoughts too frivolous

They’re beautiful
And this is where they go to die
Swallowed by the heat
Your eyes are rolling in your head

Take the fossil fuel
The body fluids
The ether has left
But we found a new magic
That can draw the last breath,
Down to the ebb
Isn’t this pretty
Say goodbye, friend
