Broken Jar Poem by Custous Angelus

Broken Jar

Ever since I could remember I had a jar
The jar wasn’t anything special
It wasn’t expensive or looked valuable
But I still treasured that jar
For what reason I do not know
But I kept things in the jar
Things both dear and hateful
Both joyful and sad
Both satisfactory and unsatisfactory
I kept every memorable things in my life
Year after year
Like grains of sand
My memories piled up inside the jar
The jar now was my greatest treasure
One day I met the love of my life
Or so I thought
All the moment I spent with her
All the memories I had with her
Was a grain of sand in the jar
Something that I would have kept
And when I thought the happiness was going to last
The farewell came
The day she left I knew I lost something
Day after day I tried to make new memories
Or relive through other fond memories within the jar
But I found no relief
No jar which was so full of memory
Was now empty and bare
Only then I noticed that the jar was broken
I desperately tried to fix the jar
Then I realized I could not fix the jar
The only thing I could was to move the items
So I got a new jar
A bigger and a stronger one this time
Because I knew how the jar broke
The jar was broken on the same day my heart did
The day she left the jar broke
Now a shard of broken jar stays within the new jar
To remind me of the painful memory
And to let no one break my jar again
