Brunch At Possum Lake Poem by Robert Eckstein

Brunch At Possum Lake

It happened just the other day, the Aliens came back;
They were tired, bored, and hungry, so they dropped in for a snack.
Billy Bob and Jake and Luther said, 'Hey, let's go pick up Clyde.
'We'll have ham and red-eye gravy, and some fresh grits on the side.
'I'll fry up a couple dozen eggs however you might please,
'And just to keep things balanced, some fruit and cottage cheese.
'I'll have Ma make us some biscuits so light you have to nail them down;
'We've got plenty sorghum syrup, and if not, I'll run to town.
'All we had to drink was beer that foggy night we met,
'But black coffee laced with moonshine is a drink you won't forget'.
They sat down at the table, and before they could begin,
Word must have got out somehow, for more people wandered in.
Some brought a pan of cornbread, some brought pies, and some brought cake,
And now they're all believers in the town by Possum Lake.
