Butterfly Boy Poem by Eli Spivakovsky

Butterfly Boy

For myself, nothing
but for you...
trail me in the long grasses and I will tell you a secret
run after me and chase me until I fall down and collapse
'There was once a boy with butterfly wings who fell in love with an angel'
Let me sip a lily and I will hunt him down for you
'Come to me, boy, I have found you feathers
Wear them secretly, and I will be your purple empress'
Then let's unravel each other, the fields, the fields will be our beckoning
And I will undo your wings and let them fly away in the breeze
And I will catch them when they bounce in flight
Tomorrow, you will rise and say, 'Where are my wings? I left them under the care of a girl'
And I will fasten them to your heaving body, your softest flesh
For myself, nothing
But for you...
a dream of lightning, a sigh of rain
the gardens will over-grow themselves and I will implant a feather in your lonely body and you will fly
upwards this time
to greet me with the stars
