Candle Afterglow Poem by Nona Vaught

Slender, flickering flame
Burn with a blaze of light
Shine with luminous color
Brief though your span may seem.
Obscured by superior splendor
Called diminishing afterglow
Encircling the warmth of the wick
Cause moments to think and to ponder.
To stimulate workings of the mind
Follow the vanishing point of an echo
Observe the last ray of sunset
Resultant contemplation occurs.
Finally, as a matter of course
Scarcely an engrossed moment
Will fail to reward a mental spark
As with diminishing candle afterglow.
