Carma Poem by Jim Yerman

Carma

"I believe, in helping others…
I believe there should be kindness in everything you do…
for I believe…eventually
that kindness journeys back to you…"

I heard him say that so often…his words flowing so instinctively
that I can't be sure of the exact moment they lodged in my memory.

When Dad would see another car or vehicle stranded by the road.
He'd stop to help and out of his mouth these words would soon explode:

"I believe, in helping others…
I believe there should be kindness in everything you do…
for I believe…eventually
that kindness journeys back to you…"

It didn't matter where we were going…helping was absolute
Why I once saw him change a tire…in the rain…
while wearing his Sunday suit!

When he got back in the car, his suit was filthy, there was mud all over his hands,
"Not to worry he said with a laugh…I think God will understand."

I asked him once why we had to stop…
no matter where we were going to…
He smiled, took my hand and said…
"Because one day…that could be you! "

"And it's like I always say…" He said…

"I believe, in helping others…
I believe there should be kindness in everything you do…
for I believe…eventually
that kindness journeys back to you…"

Yes, this is how I learned about Carma…it was my Dad's philosophy
And this is why, no matter what…I'll always spell it with a ‘C'
