Celebrating Halloween Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Celebrating Halloween

Being one who lives among,
Imitators and fakers.
To be seen on a regular basis.
Will often have...
Those adoring their masks to ask,
"Why is it that you have to be...
The one so different and noticeably?
Just be yourself.
Down to Earth like everyone else.
Without trying to impress.
With a pretentiousness obviously addressed.
Accept who you are.
What is it you protect?
That you believe we can not detect."

And this...
Living among imitators and fakers.
Is on a daily basis tolerated with patience.
With respect to give it.
One seldom gets returned.
To learn with experience to have earned.
Knowing those wishing to celebrate life,
Deciding for themselves...
How that life to live will be.
Even if to do everyday as a routine.
Being oneself to stay that way,
Will never have one heard to hear to say...
A much needed change to realize it done,
Had nothing to do with removing a mask.
