Choices Made Poem by Mary Rodriguez

Choices Made

Reaching for you as you walked away
Every part of me wishing you'd stayed
Once again I say goodbye
It's not that I wanted to or that I haven't tried
Some things are just beyond our control
I'm loosening my grip and letting you go
My heart feels that old familiar pain
Wondering, Is your heart feeling it the same?
Photographs of us etched in my mind
Reminds me of a much happier time
Looking back it's clear to see
I wanted you more than you wanted me
It's hard to walk in this world feeling alone
Feeling there's nowhere I quite belong
I'll gather the strength that lives within
It's time for a new chapter to begin
I refuse to live in the shadow of loves lost gain
Remaining there will only cause me more pain
I don't regret a single moment we shared
I'll continue to love you and show you that I care
Strong and independent, I stand on my own
No longer afraid to be alone
Don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
I love you today and I will still love you tomorrow
