Cityland Poem by Jade Leven

Cityland

Rating: 5.0

I've been in this scene so many times
coming back to the very same place
I see the world's creative lines
etched into and around your face

and now the sun sets in a sky of gold
paved with the city's jagged ceiling
over and over I have been told
to put a stop to the way I am feeling

but I won't because I know
more than any other place I call my own
this one is so beautiful
I'm here with you, I'm not alone

my mind is racing once again
faster than these speeding freeways
you talk to me about 'back then'
and compare it cleverly to 'these days'

light can echo just like sound
soaring through the crowds of dreamers
it laughs at the people on the ground
at the fashion girls and midnight schemers

and I smile because I know
more than any other place I call my own
this one is so beautiful
I'm here with you, I'm not alone

I'm drifting off to sleep
imagining your arms around me
my friend, you look so weak
so go ahead and put your arms around me

as darkness falls
I open myself up to you
my heart has no walls
I'm going to let you see right through

we are in cityland.
