Coma No More Poem by David Thomas

Coma No More

Awaken.
just now.
you see? it's everywhere
this disease,
it's in the not blue skies
and the grassy green mud ridden filth
they call water,
it's inside of the pompous gray clouds before they let
loose...
something i've lost sight of in ancient times
i feel as though i've woken
from an age long faitful coma
now that i see the world at large,
oh.
i wish i could shut these eyes of mine...
at eighteen
i have seen too much
night in day out
upside down rightside up
look around.
do it, look now. wherever you are.
what around you seems happy?
or gives off a ray of sunshine?
it's less than five things i'm betting,
i look around i see nothing.
just things.
things that once meant something but now...
i feel as though i've woken
and everything means nothing
but i'm fairly certain this poem means nothing
so i hope and pray and wish and dream
that things like today
will go and stay far, far away.
