Continuing On Until Humanity Is Gone Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Continuing On Until Humanity Is Gone

The high cost paid it is.
To escalate a need to please,
A feeding of a greed.
Believed exclusively kept to keep.

Continuing on,
Until those who are...
Self anointed elitists.
Begin to hunt themselves to defeat.

Ending yet,
Another civilization.
Leaving archaeologists decades to discover,
Buried under rubble.

Always to determine,
The cause of their demise...
As self inflicted extermination.
And a willingness to believe that greed,
Had been instructed by God...
To choose those chosen to destroy humanity.

Although nothing of this,
Should come as a surprise to archaeologists!

The high cost paid it is,
To continue repeating a self defeating.
And not learn a lesson,
When every step taken towards stupidity...
Only ends to benefit,
Planet Earth as the main benefactor.

And those loving to dig,
Up more dirt.
Hoping to find new explanations,
For the redundancy of the same ignorance.
Left to impress...
Collectors of fossils.
Attempting to address intelligently,
How, why and who...
Thought a progress to keep it,
Would be kept safely away from vultures!
