Damaged Teddy Bear Poem by David Reeves

Damaged Teddy Bear

Rating: 5.0

In a toy shop high on a shelf
I sat as days went by
Watching all my friends be bought
As Christmas Eve drew nigh.

A damaged Teddy Bear was I
Just waiting to be sold
Though no one came to look at me
As I sat alone and cold.

But as tiny tears fell from my eyes
A fairy floated by
And as she waived her pretty wand
She said please don't cry.

Santa Claus has sent me to find
A special Teddy Bear
For a little girl who asked for one
In her bedtime prayer.

So on Christmas Eve tied with a bow
Santa laid me by her side
And when she awoke and looked at me
Tears of joy she cried.

With her little arms around me
I filled her heart with joy
For I had so much love to give
Though just a broken toy.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
During my daughter's start at boarding school she was obviously homesick, as were most children during this long Autumn term, so I began to send her children type Christmas poetry. The whole dorm' looked forward for the latest piece to be read to them and I hope it took away their sadness of being away.
