Days Of Yore Poem by Robert R. Railey

Days Of Yore

Days of Yore

"So this is where we'll find the trees we'll need, " I said.
"Yes it is: but it'll be the smaller ones that we'll use for the posts
For as you can see, all of the larger ones have already been felled and
Sold, " father said.
"So then do you actually believe that this copse of only seven acres
Of trees will supply all of our needs? " I said. "For as you already know
We'll need scores of post for the lower forty alone."
"The number of trees still standing here today should more than be
Sufficient for our needs, " father said.
"For it's the man with an axe that'll determine their worth, " he said.
"But it's the worth of the man that'll be sorely tested, " I said.
"That's true, " father said. "But as they say, hard work builds character."
