Splendor Poem by Robert R. Railey

Splendor

Splendor

The Bible tells us that earthly sights of grandeur cannot ever
Compare with Heaven
The majesty of it must be awe inspiring, with rapture to last
Without end
If that's our goal, then we'll have to show, our willingness
To abide the commandants
There might still be hope, if we're so inclined, if we treat our
Fellows with dignity?
For the streets up there are paved with gold and they shine
With the radiance of dreams
But sin can be a treacherous road for it offers life it seems,
But then runs parallel to Hell
Since magnificence cannot be found here on earth but only
In the hereafter
The glory we seek should not be of man but only from his creator
For beauty and brilliance will be given to us in Heaven where
It's much greater
Luxury and finery can harm the soul so we'd best leave our
Egos behind us
For in the realm of the King of the universe, magnificence is not
Of the material
Heaven is for people who accept the laws and are willing to give
Up the lust!
We'll strike the anvil, when it's hot, an axiom that's somewhat
Hypocritical?
And we'll put off our request for salvation too, in hopes there'll
Always be time
Some people wait until it's time for the gate but some die
In sin and then it's too late
