Dear Old Stick Poem by Yvonne Rautenbach

Dear Old Stick

Rating: 4.2

Dear Old Stick! !

Images of Derek with his stick
A gentleman with touch of royal chic
Tall and dandy like a former King
Moses with his rod of serpent sting
Shepherding the people David style
Joseph with his staff along the Nile
A figure in the distance
Wilde and free
Stepping out the pavements of Ely
Master of a school of thought - of care
Steadying himself with regal air
Glastonbury style he plants his rod
In the turfs of Ely laid by God
Sprouting buds of hope in all he meets
Shooting like a soldier down the streets
One day in this world to stake his claim
Upon some sapling maiden or a dame
If I err be sure to prune me quick
of love that blossoms for this dear old stick! !
