Dearth Poem by Temitope Adebowale

Dearth

Waking up to see the hazy sunrise
Poachers on the rise

Reminiscing with a heartache
Of many species' evaporation
Hoping the future will not be lost
Then we would wish we had made enough hay
……for the sun may never rise again

With my mouth agape
Looking to the southern Cape
I watch the last of the penguins bask
This is the depths of despair

The sun is dying
The lighthouse becoming our guide
……for the sun may never rise again

Dearth = Death + Earth

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Dedicated to Mountain Bull, a magnificent (elephant) beast gunned down by poachers early this year and all the other animals losing their lives due to man's 'irresponsibility'.
