Diamond Bird Poem by Eli Spivakovsky

Diamond Bird

Kingly swift skies
caught on the wing of a dove
tuft to tuft
a diamond bird with smooth, soft hexagrams
purple, in fact
violet in time
I poured the sun on it
and its plump belly sparkled
white as asterisk, red as risk
silver in time
I will extend my wing for you
I will fix
fixed stars populate the sky
an arrow made of stars
Another has a shield
they move to the left
- dancing the hemispheres
a bird taps on my window
now it's me who's trapped
open the door will you?
I've been waiting for miracles again
Little ornithopter
orrery
olfactum
caelum
the sky excuses itself
let's the mist take over
I balance our diamond on a grain of grass
I wait for you to summon me
open *
*
*
up your Palace
All roads lead to home
come in you flutter by
you scoundrel
I'll fix you
I'll force you to inhale star-anise
force you to follow me on a star-breed
force you to star-hammer the dome
clouds surrender their shapes
turn into a puff-palace
and I see you
clearly
and you're lighting and thunder is your guest
it stands in for you
and rainbows spread their arc
because a righteous man
fell in love *
* with his wife
*
secrets
fall *
away in circles to the great yam
and the bird flies north carrying a message of paix

B.
O Dauphin
the dolphins await us
and I'll stitch it into my
banner
and my declaration will be on everyone's tongue
And I will anoint you
the Orchards will vibrate
and spring will flow into the gardens
the opposite of the plague of the firstborn
humming breeze
I invite you in
and a diamond bird will show the way
C.
Sliver of city-scape
I fly into your miracle
raise it
higher,
higher
* higher
banners of Jerusalem unite!
a diamond bird
for us to see through
kalidescope dreams
And all wars end
It finds a glass field
beneath the waters
where
the sky *
ripples
The Lost kingdom of Mer
tails swift and strange
she glides in gold
towards the satin waves
soft water on her brows
dolphins flank them
will they extend their fins
will the diamond bird land on their mossy,
water-seeped dell
will the King find favour in their King and the King of Kings?
