Distance Poem by Jana Rininger

Distance

A glimpse to the future
Shows the stars are dull tonight
They seem so far off without you here
I'm missing you terribly
When does the loniness fade, my dear?
I'd kept my end of the bargain
You said we'd be here forever
but now you're long gone
and I'm left with the ties to sever
but I cling to last words
You'll be back some day
and in all my spare time
I'm left to count the ways
You smiled at me, you winked,
you laughed, you loved.
It all went by so fast.
It flew like a dove
separated by two cities
and two different lives
distanced by fate
lost in the tides.
But my light's not out
he's out there somewhere
taking the world by storm
Even if I'm not there.
