The Boy At The Redlight Poem by Jana Rininger

The Boy At The Redlight

The boy at the redlight will never know
how much I admire him so
in his smooth blue sports car
gleaming bright as any star

what I wouldn't give
for him to open my door
step inside, push the pedal to the floor
race off into a blur of flashing light
rainbow sunsets, and the oncoming night

but alas, the light reads green
and without a glance he speeds
away with his noisy muffler
and my lonely, beating heart
causes my speedometer to leap up
and so, the chase starts.
