Divine Highway Poem by Chris Wrzesien

Divine Highway

The window woke me this morning,
wanting to witness something new,
so Iwondered whether I should attempt the routine
that only weird and wonderful friends do.

I sprinted a smallish lap around,
roaming rooms for vacancy,
and got down on my knees,
hands folded, eyes unseeing.

There wasn't really too much to say.
It was just a lazy Sunday, anyway.
I gave a little outline of my day
and where I might need help.

It seemed every light on the road
turned green at the sight of me,
waving me in,
wanting me in good spirits,
wishing I would win.

And all the people, also
waving and smiling,
even the glowing center of the universe
flowing energy through the day -
a happy knowing, directed my way -
Even the radio played only the best songs.

Another intersection, more green glow,
and Iglanced around
to guess how many traffic sensors sat in the ground
to give me such generosity today.

I didn't see any,
but it occurred to me
you don't have to see something
or know how it works
to know that it works
