Do You Hear Us? Poem by Kuda Bondamakara

Do You Hear Us?

These supplications we offer Oh Lord;
In the secret place You dwell, most High;
Do they ascend into Your world?
Or do You turn on them a blind eye?

When we ask every day for a piece of gold
Or any blessing that falls from the sky
Such as we never expect to behold
Do You take heed when we pray?

When we wail, the young and the old;
And Your children we depart from thee
Do You hear from where you sit, God?
Or do You despise our cries if we are not nigh?

When we cry chastised, by Your iron rod;
And You shut Your heavens leaving us dry
If we offer supplication to You God
Do You hear us when in earnest we try?

When Your wrath makes us a tale to be told
And we become the hunter's prey?
If we turn to You our Refugee, our God
Do You open Your ears, do You hear us cry?

These prayers we pray to You God;
Every day when we look up to the sky
Do they reach Your fortress our Lord?
Do they blossom into Your sanctity?
