Old timers will recall with delight and fun
What a joy it was to watch Doordarshan
Soap, News, Skits and Sports glued us all
Kashmir to Kanyakumari it did enthrall
Since 1959, DD is part of our household
Dance, Drama, Music, Features like gold
DD entertains n informs like no one else
Whatever happens in the world, DD tells
Who can forget Sundays' movie telecast
Or the Chitrahaar which had no contrast
Newsreaders and presenters like Salma
Sultan, Komal G B Singh & Sarla Zariwala
Shobhna Jagdish nd Avinash kaur Sareen
Vinod Dua Kamleshwar nd Ghazala Amin
Tejeshwar Singh and...Neethi Ravindran
Geetanjali Iyer and…..Ramu Damodaran
I recollect early eightees, I was in Lahore, I remember the whole Lahore was enchanted and watched the Indian songs and movies on Julundher/Amritsar Doordarshan. Darshan to darshan hay door hi se sahi,
Thanks for sharing your views about some of the most popular old Doordarshan hits pertaining to that period. Incidentally, I also watched PTV programs during my postings at Srinagar and Jalandhar. Besides dramas, I can easily recall 'Tariq Aziz Show' 'Interviews of great Ghazal Singers in Baithak style' and 'Zia Mohiuddin Show'. Recently, I watched an old program in which Naheed Akhtar was interviewed by PTV. Thank you very much for your appreciative comments.
It is here, I feel the relevance of the adage..... Old is gold! Yes, I too was so much fascinated by Doordarshan, offering a medley of interesting programmes! Chitrahaar, I particularly enjoyed! Through this effective write, old memories are revived!
Of course, DD qualifies for this epithet 'Old is Gold'. I can still remember some unique programmes which I would like to watch again. Thanks a lot for your kind words of appreciation.
Since 1959 Doordarshan is one of our essential part to obtain news, entertainment and knowledge that you have portrayed here astutely. Beautiful poem shared. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, Kumarmani ji, for sharing your views about the role of Doordarshan in those days. Our experience has been somewhat similar.
Yes Rajnish ji, I too was besotted with Doordarshan. The programmes were so good. I have watched every episode of Ramayan and Mahabharat. Komal Singh and Salma Sutan were charming ladies. So also all the people you have mentioned. So good to go back along the memory lane. :)
I am glad you too remember those wonderful serials (something which was never replicated in terms of popularity and artistic quality) and those down to earth yet graceful faces. In 60's, not many people could afford TVs. So children and grown ups used to watch it at someone's who possessed it. Thanks for your great comments, Geeta ji.
