Echo Poem by Brandi Parker

Echo

i've been waiting all of my life
waiting to look into your eyes
waiting to hear your voice
speak my name
my soul trembles
and my heart aches
i've been waiting for you
to shatter the silence
that surrounds me
i've been waiting for your heart
to echo mine
i've been waiting
for this moment to come
where i would be at ease
i've been waiting
for the familiar
to surround and embrace me
the moment when my heart
recognized another
too long i've stumbled
in complete darkness
not knowing my way
any light i might have had
came in the form of hope
there have been times
this light grew dim
even went out
sparked again only by
renewal of hope
that appeared as mercy
at the hand of a stranger
beckoned by a mirage
i have strayed but never
completely turned away
from this eternal search
it's the waiting that hurts
every moment that passes
is a moment lost with you
the only saving grace
is that you
are worth waiting for
so still i wait.
