All I Can Do Poem by Brandi Parker

All I Can Do

i've hit the highways and byways
shuffling my feet to the tune in my head
searching for my soul, my love, my self
finding that although i am not alone
i am still yet alone
my conquest is myself
conquering my fears and demons alike
disarming my flaws to become less rough
making mistakes to discover success
still on the path to recovery from many bad choices
a step at a time in right direction
i still have a long way to go on this journey
many tears and much laughter awaits me
now and then i find a shoulder to lean on
someone i'm connected with on a deeper level
heart to heart soul to soul
my past precedes me yet i've tried to sweep my tracks
closer and closer i come to my dream
chasing one mirage after another
stay focused on the truth
it's all i can do
i don't have time for lies
yet it seems i drink it like water
it sustains me momentarily
until i discover its ugly face
my heart is not to be denied
i will walk this path until the day i find
the arms that have been yearning
for my long awaited embrace
until then i stay true to the only person i can
until then i learn as much as possible
about what it is to truly love someone
i want to be ready
prepared for the inevitable
my heart will not be denied
one day i will arrive and knock ever so gently
my voice will resound the urgency in my soul
please
just love me
just hold me
just find me
just....
please....
my heart will not be denied
one day.
