Eliminating Truth Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Eliminating Truth

After months of testy deliberation.
And weeks of needless debates.
It has taken us just a few hours,
To reach a bipartisan conclusion.

"This is terrific news.
The people will be overwhelmed.
Already many of them have begun to rejoice.
What have you finally decided? "

We have decided to eliminate the truth.
You know...
The 'original' one?
And replace it with our own facts.
With added scientific delusions.

"Whew!
That's a relief.
So many were protesting against its reality.
The stress of being honest,
Had become such a confusing conflict.
When to do it and recognize it done,
Was causing too many to suffer emotionally.
So...
What will be the new direction?
And when will it be implemented? "

First...
All liars convicted of deceiving secretly,
Will be announced and praised...
For their hoodwinking to dupe humanity.

"Oh. Good, good. What else? "

And then allowed,
To represent their constituents...
If they choose to do this,
Run to become elected...
For either the Senate or congress.
Why are you crying?

"Overwhelmed with joy I am.
Now...
No one has to pretend to be self righteous.
Now...
We can just be the people we are.
Without fear of indictments,
Impeachments or disobeying rules.
And the expense of paying lawyers,
Helping us to practice...
Those pointless innocent looks.
That...
Had many of us so difficult to do! "
