From Norwich, my very sweetest memory,
Is the sight and scent of the wisteria trees.
Their enchanting display caught my eye
The very first time that I passed them by.
I passed these trees by, every single day,
As, to and from the city centre, I made my way.
A few of the blossoms had already died away,
As I visited the city towards the end of May;
A picture of the trees, on my camera, I took,
So, at least I captured how lovely they looked -
But, what I really wished I could do as well,
Was to capture, in a bottle, their intoxicating smell.
The air was heavily scented with their sweet perfume;
Their blossoms brightened up the rain-soaked gloom.
Their perfume, I drunk down, as I ambled on by,
And, having inhaled it so deeply, my soul soared high.
The Church of St Giles’ is famed for these plants,
And, the church’s character, they most definitely enhance.
In my mind’s eye, I can still see that magnificent display;
Seeing such natural beauty really brightened up my day.
A lovely poem, so descriptive of those beautiful trees. Enchanting indeed.
