Everything Will Pass (While Your Eyes Are Closed) Poem by Matt Mercer

Everything Will Pass (While Your Eyes Are Closed)

We used to sit in a silence so deep
without a whisper,
without a peep

As I look into your eyes
I see a closed mind
the heart barricaded
by a soul so blind

The intensity of that moment
was what the future had come to be
the quarreling was a hindrance
but a benefit,
of what you didn't see

Comfort in darkness is all and well
but once the light comes through
life will have a different tale to tell

We continue to remain so passive.
me and you
not giving in, over this table for two
The ignorant conscious can look right by
but your eyes won't let you see
A sinister plot by the external?
Or just the person...
...you so eagerly claim to be?

Life is a gift to be lived,
in line with the waking eye
not in the shadow of regret
nor a hope you can deny

The stalemate has been reached,
between you and I
and although I may never make you see
this won't be our last goodbye

And with this absence of sound that we hear
what more can I honestly say to you my dear?
You lack an understanding of what the truth means
and your thoughts have become so unclear
I will try my best to open your heart
but for that we must take a journey
back to the start

The world dissolves around us in this lonely room
we exist in this abandoned moment
but realise it all too soon
you must only take another glance
to understand that everything around us
did not occur by utter chance

Sitting in this silence, will never cease in the memory
but the future might have it's say
so that everything will not pass...

...but guide you on your way...
