Factless Distractions Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Factless Distractions

A kept ignorance to witness it.
Presented on a daily basis to defend.
By admiring cheering crowds.
Believing their values are represented.
Has to have someone enlightened.
Although left frightened by a seductive,
And massive...
(Factless and rapid distractions.
Swiftly manufactured and tactless.)
...hypnosis produced.
Suddenly from nowhere to induce.
Leaves ignorance witnessed to praise it.

(Factless, manufactured and tactless.
Rapid distractions flashing too fast.)
Soaked by an hypnosis.
Unnoticed it witnessed.
Minds unused are quick to fool.
As if a kept intelligence,
Has been from them removed.
Or tossed back into a grab bag.
Passed around among the crowd.
As if souvenirs,
Replacing thoughts...
No one remembers to have had.

(Factless distractions.
Manufactured swiftly.
As the crowd cheers and laughs.)

"What did you pick as your prize?
I got 'dunce'.
And...
On my first pick too.
How about you? "

-I keep getting intelligence.
Worthless for me to use.
Three times I picked it.-

"Try again.
Maybe the fourth time,
Will be the charm.
No one is that unlucky."

-You want to trade? -

"Are you serious?
I was hoping I would pick 'stupid'.
But I'm happy 'dunce' is close to it."

(Swift and fast are factless distractions.
And wished to get,
By many as a prize. A gift.
To reward for their ignorance.)
