Fall Is Here So Quickly Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Fall Is Here So Quickly

Rating: 5.0

Fall is here
so quickly it seems
Spring and summer came
and went
broken dreams

swirling winds of change
and leaves begin to fall
Things fade
Take a rest
Renew or stop growing at all

Once green grass
blotchy from Summer sun
football players practicing
Cross country runners
on the run

Lovers embrace
near lakes and streams
beneath the setting sun
orange and red and yellow
but I am not the one

Boyhood memories of this..
gathering kindling
and falling trees
and chopping wood
I miss

Motorcycling on backroads
with someone holding close
leaning into turns at speed
her hands upon my chest
a long ago feeling of bliss

Geese flying overhead
as love is flying in my head
of things of I miss
I miss the feeling of her kiss
her mouth, her lovely tenderness

But there is no going back
as seasons change things go away
A hollowness fills my chest
and I wish it to go away
of love I cannot say

But loneliness
stops me in my track
dreams of love
I try to push back
wounded in the attack

I sit down
and hold my arms
hard against my chest
know I've done my best
but it still hurts, the lonliness

I look at the trees that surround
quiet spirits look upon me and frown
magestic spirits tall, who see all
and then the leaves rustle and fall
nature's silent teardrops of Fall

I stay for a while
in worn out jeans
everything is deja vu
just a heart breaking at the seams
caught between love past and dreams

sunlight scatters through tears
held inside for years
Fall reminds that Winter is near
it's been another lonely year
I love Fall....wish you were with me here
