Familiar Friend And Foe Poem by Jason Caporaletti

Familiar Friend And Foe

Hello my familiar friend
I knew you would be back again
you've tried to quit me many times
but still you need me in the end

You're breath is weak, you're chest is sore?
But you'll abuse me yet some more?
Your excuses are so cute
My helpless friend, I do adore

Without me you're pathetic,
but with me you're an addict
They warned you of my hefty price
they warned you, but you never read it

Smash me like a hammer!
Burn me with your fire!
Kiss me and then toss me away!
All for that cloudy calm you so desire...

Do you feel better now?
Your agitations are calmed down?
And now you just discard me?
And now you stomp me on the ground?

You know the calm will run out fast.
How long do you think this will last?
'That's it, no more! ' again you claim.
Lies, so shows our long drawn past.

I'm killing you, sure and slow.
Don't lie, deny, I know you know
you are after all, my familiar friend
and I your reaper, your familiar foe.
