First To The Finish Poem by Brandon McConnell

First To The Finish

Rating: 5.0

Last to the kill,
First to the finish.
Fighting until
The thoughts diminish.

Eternity on,
They linger so.
Never withdrawn,
They won't ever go.

Many were fighting,
All but few fell.
Surrender inviting,
I kissed it farewell.

Silent but quick,
Most fell away.
None were violent,
They just went astray.

The longer the fight,
The more my heart raced.
For love or for fright,
The answer's misplaced.

Down to just us now,
Myself and my rival.
To live I now vow.
I will fight for survival.

He found me at night,
He caught me off guard.
Escape I might,
But I'm thinking too hard.

I, standing paralyzed,
He, at a sprint.
My murder authorized,
His eyes held a glint.

Next thing I know,
My face hits the ground.
I await the last blow,
As he loads his last round.

Accepting my fate,
I take a deep breath.
My heart grows in weight,
And explodes at my death.

Last to the kill,
First to the finish.
Fighting until
The thoughts diminish.

My thoughts are still here!
It's not over yet.
I turn and revere,
My almost-death threat.

Just moments later,
I'm safe in my bed.
I defeated the foe,
He was just in my head.

First to bed,
Last to arise.
Fighting until
I open my eyes.
