Flower Of The Bent Back Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Flower Of The Bent Back

Flower of the bent back
Rise up, arch not your
Back - it be the dawn!
Look! On the hills light
Abounds where before
The edge of the hill
Cut against the dark
And formed silhouettes
To the walker-by nocturnal
And his sub-conscious dreams:
Light comes and comes
Though not all times all
Places yet here on this
Hill the Poet Seer should come
And view
And then
Erect with the new day in him
Sing verses of the light and
Chants his way sacred
On the hills where light
Abounds.
Flower of the bent back
Like you a posse of flowers
All bent stretch and move as drunk
With the wholesome winds
That the lights brought with them.
The nocturnal traveler to
His home and bed he went
And now awakes alas!
A little too late to enjoy the lights
Opening his casements on the green
In front.
In vain!
To-night, to-night,
There will be the same walker by
Nocturnal and the bending flowers
Life's bending to earth at night
Is strong and raw-ingrained.

The
Lizard
Chants
Raises
Her
Head
And
Beady
Eyes
And
Rushes
To
the
bushes
Fades
A chaffinch
Flown
Down
From
The
Skies
Plays
Round
A
Late
Hedgehog
To
His
Burrow
Hurries

Flower of the bent back
Rise up, arch not your
Back - it be the dawn!
Look! On the hills light
Abounds where before
The edge of the hill
Cut against the dark
And formed silhouettes
To the walker-by nocturnal
And his sub-conscious dreams:
Light comes and comes
Though not all times all
Places yet here on this
Hill the Poet Seer should come
And view
And then
Erect with the new day in him
Sing verses of the light and
Chants his way sacred
On the hills where light
Abounds.
Flower of the bent back
Like you a posse of flowers
All bent stretch and move as drunk
With the wholesome winds
That the lights brought with them.
The nocturnal traveler to
His home and bed he went
And now awakes alas!
A little too late to enjoy the lights
Opening his casements on the green
In front.
In vain!
To-night, to-night,
There will be the same walker by
Nocturnal and the bending flowers
Life's bending to earth at night
Is strong and raw-ingrained.
