Fly My Broken Heart Poem by Anthony Burge

Fly My Broken Heart

Fly my heart above the sea on cusp of broken wave

Salted down and waterlogged on albatross beak staved

Forgive me not for I have sinned and now must pay the toll

Forged on lathe of wind swept shores with no time left to loll

Battle with my demons atop the slippery sea

Slay the weedy dragons breath of fire set me free

Lay down my sword surrender to my broken heart

Vanquished bowed on bended knee I seek a brand new start

Too long away from winning at a loss to see the light

I shed my suit of armour go gently into that night

Leaping off the cliff face into the rising sun

Find my wings mid-flight I’ll glide onto horizons run

Tumbling arms are flailing as earth rushes up to meet

Back pedalling now hit pause reverse commit there’s no retreat

Darkness envelopes me of sound there is no light

Adrenalin leaked on earth and sea so too the urge to fight

Full stop end of sentence short of breath as short can be

Embalmed in warmth of darkness now as one with my love the sea.

Adrift a Noresmens grave boat sails me back to homeland shores

To pastures green familiar once remembered times of yore

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Penned after a lengthy battle with arterial fibrillation, my heart was out of synch despite several attempts at cardio version to get me back into sinus rhythm.
I was feeling broken and ready to withdraw from the battle.
