Freedom Song Poem by Bireswar Halder

Freedom Song

Rating: 4.8

I am set to uncage the caged myna free forever
Out it’ll fly from the prison-house, gleefully
Often it stares at me with an immeasurable longing
The myna dreams to fly down the open sky.

I domesticated it well with a loving care
Deep bond grew by the hour between me and the pet
And it slowly picked up the master’s language so nicely
Everyday its ‘good morning’ is a herald for a blissful day

My filial cord wipes out my stresses, the strains, the pains
I play with it, share my inner heart and join in its fun
It pays back, like a baby joins in the frolic, bites my hand
Sweet memories will peep once it soars in the limitless sky

Myna like a migrant will fly for its destination
A void will make me cry always in silence
Dissension brings only grief and pains, my dear
Is it a dream or an illusion – I don`t know?

Dear myna, you are free to fly to your pastures
Be happy with your congener in your new home
I will shed tears seeing your empty cage
And I will wait for the season to come once.
