Friend Of My Forever Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Friend Of My Forever

I remember the first time life to me was given —
You were there just right beside me hearing my life’s first cry.
Then between us friendship sprang forth all of a sudden,
We promised to each other we’ll keep on standing by.

We both kept our promises as I began to grow
I saw how You took care and loved me so tenderly.
When dark nights come, You show me the light of tomorrow.
And assure me that darkness stays not permanently.

But as I mature more, I saw how big the world is.
Since that time, I kept You waiting in our meeting place
Hoping that I will come and that somehow I will miss
The joys you gave me even by just seeing Your face.

O I have wandered long and enjoyed a hunter’s life —
Haunting for more because I find no satisfaction.
Alone have I devoured on beasts and ate pain and strife.
Though I have many, I can feel great deprivation.

There are no more beasts left for me to hunt for and slay
Because I now search for something I lost deep inside —
A friendship that gave me coolness in the heat of day
And gave me warmth in the night because You were beside.

Now I run in the speed of light searching everywhere
Longing to gaze again upon the face I once knew
To bring back the stolen years I thought lost forever.
I will never stop the search, not until I find You.

Yes I will be successful because You’re always near
Watching every moment, never letting me fall.
I’m so excited to already say, “I am here,
Here with the person to whom I pledged my life and all”.

Ever always, You are the friend of my forever —
The One I always want to be with whatsoever.
