Frightful Halloween Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

Frightful Halloween

As silence fills the thick night air
A voice I hear so far, not near
At first a murmur not too loud
Then more I hear beneath the ground

At once my legs take step to pick up pace
Ahead, a staring, leering face
For whom has come from broken ground
With murmuring, an awful sound

Each howl as eerie as this night
'Hello, ' Please, who is there
That staring face so ever close
No where to run from here

A fear so cold within myself
Like winter's frozen air
In some such way, a feeling reaching out
She holds me in her stare

Her eyes bright red, in a dress of shadows
For 'Death, ' so proper preen
All remained was prayer, until she spoke
'Happy Halloween'
