Generation Gray Poem by Joyce Rugg

Generation Gray

They tell us to think for ourselves,
to have a mind of our own
yet all we speak must be censored
By those who think they know better

Gagged till we reach a certain age,
Once we've earned the gift of free speech
to give voice to another's thoughts,
parroting our parents' dogmas

They tell us that we're all different
that we're all special boys and girls,
stamp on our serial numbers
and ship us out into the world
