George The Dragon Slayer Poem by Paula Glynn

George The Dragon Slayer

George a warrior of the 12th century
England with its mythological creatures
From unicorns, witches, fairies and leprechauns
And reaching to the fearsome dragons
Where fire would be expelled through
An outtake of aggressive breath.

Princess Lily does have a royal suitor
Chosen by her strict father's hand
Her mother deceased so with no say
And Princess Lily does wait for that fearful day
Sending prayers above to the mysterious stars
That shine with the hope of true love.

Soon wandering through the wild woods
Princess Lily does spy a large green egg
Wondering what lies ahead in the superstitious woods
Where reality is not acting as it should
Hearing a loud sound enter the darkening woods
A fire breathing dragon having her fascinatingly staring hard.

Chosen to guard the large green dragon egg
Princess Lily does as is wise to do
Not marrying the ugly and greedy prince
But protecting the dragon egg instead
With no comfortable pillow to lay her head
The night following night with demonic dread.

Dread of the soldiers arriving on their horses
To capture the dragon and destroy the large green egg
Where dragons would be slain: would be dead
Guilty people who must be punished for wanting the dragon's head
To be a trophy of the legendary conquest of
George The Dragon Slayer.

But George to play a clever trick:
Pretending to skilfully slay the powerful dragon
Secretly setting the dragon free forever
The precious hatched egg now releasing a strong dragon
To continue the legacy of George becoming husband
To the beautiful and elegant Princess Lily.
