Get Sober Poem by Randy McClave

Get Sober

You're giving chances to get sober
Then you don't and your life is all over,
You had spent your entire life getting drunk
Now 6 foot deep into a hole you are sunk.
Now when family and friends remember you
They will always remember you drinking a bottle or two,
And if you had never got into drinking
More could have been yours with wishful thinking.
You could had led a better and a more fruitful life
With less worries, headaches and strife,
Never passed out on the floor or on the bed
And less pain and suffering from mistakes and dread.
Never questioning yourself where you are
Never with strangers while drunk will you argue or spar,
And never again will you be laughed at
I hope and pray that you understand that.
You have been called a lush and a wino and a boozer
You have been described and known as a loser,
And you have been called a problem drinker and a bar fly
Who only cares about is getting drunk and/ or high.
If you had just pushed that bottle away
You most likely would had been here another day,
But, you always thought that you needed another drink
Whenever your mind and soul did sink.
Remember this, God only send us so many life preservers
As testified by many righteous observers,
And if you don't put that bottle away on the highest shelf
God, will come down here and get you himself.
